Η παρούσα διδακτορική διατριβή πραγματεύεται την πορεία διαμόρφωσης του έφηβου ήρωα, όπως παρουσιάζεται σε κείμενα του Θανάση Βαλτινού: «Κατακαλόκαιρο», «Εθισμός στη νικοτίνη», «Αύγουστος ’48», «Ήλιος και βροχή», «Πήτερ και 11ατ», «Θερμοπύλες», Σχισμή φωτός, «Κρασί και νύμφες», «Το ποτάμι», Κάθοδος και Ανάπλους. Για τη διερεύνηση του ζητήματος του ανδρισμού στην εφηβεία και τη μύηση του εφήβου στο κυρίαρχο στερεότυπο της εποχής του θεωρήθηκε πρόσφορη η τυπολογία του Bildungsroman στα εκτενέστερα υπό εξέταση έργα: Κάθοδος και Ανάπλους. Αρχικά παρουσιάζονται ορισμένες θεωρίες για τον ανδρισμό (Connell για τον ηγεμονικό ανδρισμό και Goldstein για τον στρατιωτικό ανδρισμό) στο πλαίσιο των σπουδών φύλου και γίνεται ειδικότερη αναφορά στην εφηβική περίοδο. Ακολουθεί μια γενική θεώρηση της έννοιας του Bildungsroman και των συγγενικών ειδών του. Στο δεύτερο μέρος της διατριβής γίνεται λεπτομερής εξέταση επιλεγμένων έργων του Θανάση Βαλτινού με κριτήριο την παρουσία έφηβου ήρωα σε αυτά. Ο έφηβος εξετάζεται στα συγκεκριμένα ιστορικά συμφραζόμενα και παρουσιάζεται ο τρόπος αξιοποίησης του θέματος αυτού από τον Βαλτινό. Στα έργα του διερευνώνται οι παράγοντες που συμβάλλουν στη διαμόρφωση του εφήβου και καθορίζουν την ανδρική ταυτότητα, ιδίως στο στάδιο λίγο πριν την ωριμότητα. Σε κάποια έργα κυρίαρχη και καθοριστική αναδεικνύεται η θεματική της σεξουαλικότητας, μιας από τις βασικές παραμέτρους που σηματοδοτούν την εφηβική περίοδο και μαζί με άλλες παραμέτρους συνδιαμορφώνουν την ανδρική ταυτότητα. Οι άλλοι διαμορφωτικοί παράγοντες που αναδεικνύονται είναι το γονεϊκό και συγγενικό περιβάλλον, ο φιλικός κύκλος, ο περίγυρος του σχολείου και η ζωή στη φύση. Με βάση τη διερεύνηση της αναπαράστασης στα κείμενα στερεοτυπικών ή μη εικόνων των φύλων και τη διαμόρφωση της συγγραφικής προσωπικότητας στον Ανάπλου, καταδεικνύεται πώς αυτά τα στοιχεία συνηγορούν με τις ρηξικέλευθες αφηγηματικές μορφές που προτείνει ο Βαλτινός.

This PhD thesis deals with the process of formation of the adolescent hero as presented in particular texts by Thanassis Valtinos: “Katakalokero”, “Ethismos sti nikotini”, “Avgoustos ʼ48”, “Helios ke vrochi”, “Piter ke Pat”, “Thermopyles”, Schismi photos, “Krassi ke nymphes”, “To potami”, Kathodos, Anaplous. Bildungsroman’s typology was considered appropriate for exploring the issue of masculinity in adolescence. In addition the initiation of adolescence into the dominant masculinity stereotype of his time in relation to his more extensive prose works, such as his novella Kathodos and his romance Anaplous. In the first part of the RhD thesis views on masculinity and male adolescence in particular are presented in the context of gender studies (Connell’s for hegemonic masculinity and Goldstein’s for military masculinity). Moreover an overview of the genre of Bildungsroman and its subgenres is provided. In the second part of the thesis a detailed thematic approach to Valtinos’s specific works is attempted through close reading; the common element in all works under examination the presence of the adolescent hero. Male adolescence is examined in the specific historical contexts and Valtinos’s literary elaboration in various prose genres. In the selected works of Thanassis Valtinos the factors that shape adolescence and determine the male identity are thoroughly studied. In all texts, the theme of sexuality proves to be dominant and decisive for Valtinos’s male adolescent characters; although sexuality is dominant, is not the only gactor determining male indentity and transition to maturity. Other aspects that turned to be decisive are: parental and kinship environment, the circle of friends, the school environment, in the role of nature in the adolescent’s formation. Based on the exploration of the representation in the texts of stereotypical or non-stereotypical images of the sexes and the formation of the authorial personality in Anaplous, it is demonstrated how these elements uphold the groundbreaking narrative forms proposed by Valtinos.
